Books to Transport You to a Cooler Place

It feels as if the entire world is united under one thing right now...a heatwave. If you, like me, find yourself spending an extra long time in the frozen aisle of your grocery store, here are some of my favorite cool weather books!

Beartown

Beartown is one of my all-time favorite books. It contains so many things I love, sports, compelling characters, small towns, and snow. If you are dreaming of going north for the summer, pick up this book, which is set in Sweden!

Wintering

If you prefer non-fiction, Wintering might be the book for you. Katherine May's quiet yet profound writing feels like a cool hug.

The Unsinkable Greta James

Set in Alaska, this family saga will have you zipping up your parka and booking a cruise. I loved the father/daughter saga and the way this book talks about walking through grief.

Rock Paper Scissors

Mr. and Mrs. Wright know that the only way to save their marriage is by a weekend away in Scotland. Ten years of secrets will unravel as the couple learns the real reason for their Scottish getaway.

An Unwanted Guest

My favorite thriller trope is good old fashion snow in. (Two of the books in this list involve being snowed in). When hotel guests realize they can't leave their remote hotel due to a blizzard, they settle in for a longer than anticipated retreat. All is well until one of the guests is murdered, leaving the rest of the guests wondering who among them was the murderer.

East

This beautiful YA saga will take you on a journey through the Nordic countries. The story is beautifully written and filled with a wonderful cast of characters!

When All is Said

Though this book is not set in the winter, I found it to have the same feeling. If you are looking for a book that will move you deeply while breaking your heart, read this book. I think about it often.
