I will admit that we are already midway through July, but I'm in denial that June is already over.
June kicked off what is unofficially my Ann Patchett Summer as I started/read two of her book and picked up another at my Little Free Library. Honestly, 10/10 if you are looking for a reading theme for this season.

Good Joy, Bad Joy by Mikki Brammer | Fiction, 4/5
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the friendship between Joy and Hazel. Some points felt a little too belabored but overall I really liked this one. If you like Clare Pooley, I think you would enjoy this!
Down with the Shipmans by Meg Mitchell Moore | Fiction, 4/5
Perfect summer reading! If you’re looking for a book to throw in your beach bag that’s not a romance, this one is great. Perfect for lovers of a messy family and sisters.
Abundance by Ezra Klein, Derek Thompson | Nonfiction, 3/5
I wanted to love this book, but the thesis felt very thin. If you're interested in the topic matter, I would recommend reading Klein's opinion pieces, as they are shorter form but pack a similar punch.
Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather | Classical Fiction, 4/5
This was a beautiful quiet book. While the stories didn’t capture my attention as much, the nature writing was stunning. It is the most quotidienne book I've read. My reading experience was made much better by discussing it with my book club!
Phoebe Berman's Gonna Lose It by Brooke Averick | Fiction, 4/5
As someone who canceled more than one date due to anxious nausea, I loved this book. I loved Phoebe as much as she loved a list. This is a great beach read and I thought a more realistic romcom. I got a little lost following the side characters, but overall highly recommend. (Also for a book about a woman trying to lose her virginity, it is closed door!)
Whistler by Ann Patchett | Fiction, 5/5
I was not ready to be done with this book. I absolutely adored Daphne and Eddie’s relationship. This was reflective and loving. If you liked TOM LAKE, I think you will devour this book.

Dept. of Speculation by Jenny Offill | Fiction, 4/5
This book was really a unique read. Once I got a hang of the narrative style, I really enjoyed it. I think it would have been better on page instead of audio.
The Children by Melissa Albert | Fiction, 3/5
The first few chapters had me hooked but the rest of the book was underwhelming. I got lost in the back and forth and trying to remember who all the side characters were. Overall this book wasn’t for me.
