This is a very delayed roundup, but April was packed with joy! I read some great non-fiction and a very sassy thriller.

Happy reading!

The End of the Affair, Graham Greene | Fiction, 4/5

This book was a stunning emotional rollercoaster. While it’s short, it was a slower read, but a fascinating character study. It was perfect for a book club discussion!

No More Tears: The Dark Secrets of Johnson & Johnson, Gardiner Harris | Nonfiction, 5/5

If you read EMPIRE OF PAIN and thought WTF buckle up because this was an insane ride. Extremely well researched and documented, this was an incredible expose into J&J’s history and the corruption and lies woven throughout the company. It will forever change the way I view this company. While it’s a long book, I could not stop listening.

Mad Mabel, Sally Hepworth | Fiction, 5/5

I loved this book. While there is a thriller element, I found this book to be more of a character study. I adored Mabel and her neighbors. And while I saw bits of the twist coming, I was deeply moved by the ending. Mabel was magnificent.

London Falling: A Mysterious Death in a Gilded City and a Family's Search for Truth, Patrick Radden Keefe | Nonfiction, 5/5

Patrick Radden Keefe is an absolute master storyteller. This was a powerful work of journalism that wove multiple complicated stories together. I loved it.

Kin, Tayari Jones | Fiction, 4/5

I don’t think I was emotionally prepared for how sad this book was going to be. Read with tissues. What a beautiful found family saga.

Canción, Eduardo Halfon | Short Stories, 4/5

A beautiful book that deals with identity and family history. Halfon’s prose are beautiful. My reading of this book was greatly enhanced by reading it on the shore of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.

Rogues: True Stories of Grifters, Killers, Rebels and Crooks, Patrick Radden Keefe | Essays, Nonfiction, 4/5

This is a great collection of essays and a great and ranging showcase of Radden Keefe’s mastery of investigative journalism.
