Welcome to 2025! I hope everyone is staying sane. January felt like a fever dream, but somehow, I read eleven books, four of which were five-star reads! So, if nothing else, at least my reading year is off to a solid start!
Here's what I read in January:

From Here to the Great Unknown | Memoir, 5/5
I knew very little about Presley before starting this book, and I’m here to say this is one of the best memoirs I’ve listened to. This book is beautifully woven together between Lisa Marie’s unfinished memoir and her daughter’s experience of her mother. This is not just a beautiful and heartbreaking read, but a beautiful mother-daughter story. I highly recommend this book in audiobook format.
Heartbreak Is the National Anthem | Non-Fiction, 4/5
Truthfully, sometimes you just need a lighthearted read about why Taylor Swift is a badass.
Colored Television | Fiction, 4/5
This book is darkly comedic, but if you’re looking for some plot, almost nothing happens in this book. I thought the social commentary was really on the nos,e and this book would appeal to fans of YELLOWFACE.
A Well-Trained Wife | Memoir, 5/5
I know a lot of books get comped to EDUCATED, but this might be the perfect match—and I found this book more impactful given the years of therapy Levings has done. I grew up in a very conservative Christian home, and so many of the things she writes about were what I was taught. I will be thinking about this memoir for a long time.
A Cold Killing | Thriller, 3.5/5
I could not put the first half of this book down, but the second half had some flashbacks that were hard to follow. Overall, this is a quick winter thriller. I read it during a snowstorm, which added to my experience. Great for fans of THE FAMILY GAME.
Knife | Memoir, 4/5
This is a hard book to rate. I found the writing to be stunning and his descriptions of what he went through to be very compelling. I do wish there had been more personal reflection and less about his medical team. This is great on audio, and I think it’s a must read.
Inside Out | Memoir, 4/5
I picked this memoir up after hearing Moore’s acceptance speech at the 2025 Golden Globes. I knew little about her life other than who she had been married to. I was so impressed by everything Moore went through and how she handled it, but I wish the book was less detailed about those who wronged her and more about what she learned from those experiences.
The Favorites | Fiction, 5/5
Wow, wow, wow, this book. I knew nothing about ice dancing before picking it up, but now I am obsessed. The writing, the drama! This is a near-perfect book. Perfect for fans of Taylor Jenkins Reid. This will be one of my favorite books of the year!
Disney High | Non-Fiction, 4/5
This book is pure nostalgia. Loved it! Very fun on audio.
How to Age Disgracefully | Fiction, 5/5
No one puts together a lovable cast of characters like Clare Pooley. I absolutely loved this book. I laughed, I cried, it was so lovely. For fans of Fredrik Backman.
Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone | Thriller/Mystery, 3/5
This had been on my TBR for a while, and I found the premise to be really interesting. This book dragged on a bit too much, and I think it was too meta for me personally.
